Marketing isn’t a hard science and it never will be. But if you turn it into a regimented process, you will have the best chance of getting guaranteed marketing results. As far as we know, there’s only one approach that works in this regard; testing and improving.
Arbitrary attempts bring random results
First, let’s give you an idea of what most businesses do. They randomly log onto social media, make a short post, share a relevant picture, and call it a day. Sometimes they send an email to subscribers with time-sensitive information.
This strategy doesn’t work because there’s no process to it. It’s completely arbitrary, which is why the results will be completely random. Sometimes it’ll work, and sometimes it won’t. You won’t find many other patterns than that.
Testing is the best marketing strategy
The only way to get guaranteed marketing results is to test your strategy over and over again. This is how you’ll learn what your target audience responds to and what doesn’t interest them.
To be clear, this doesn’t mean that you’ll have a perfect marketing campaign. You won’t double your conversion rate overnight just because you document your strategy. Rather, you’ll be able to make more accurate predictions of how your marketing efforts will fair.
Find out what’s wrong with your campaign
The reason testing is so effective is because you can isolate specific variables each round. For three months, for example, you can try posting a blog every day at 3pm and immediately share it on social media.
Then, you can start to play with the settings. Change your content, its tone, and the time you post it. After a while, you’ll learn what works and what doesn’t in regard to your marketing campaign. With each round of testing, you learn more about your target audience and what they expect from your brand.
This approach can apply to web copy, Adwords, SEO, social media advertising and more.
